Web launch – Weedless Wednesday
January 20, 2010
To help celebrate Weedless Wednesday and shamelessly promote the book, First You Smoked Now Live… We filmed reading of the Introduction from the book at the Buzz Coffeehouse. The book parallels the Central Island Smoking Intervention Clinic’s 7 week smoking cessation program… it’s a self-guided book which helps give the tools needed to quit smoking for good!!
To purchase “First You Smoked Now You Live” online ($24.99 plus $5.00 shipping and handling):

Next week’s topic: James Cameron’s movie, Avatar, is mediatherapy!

Physician heal thyself?
January 4, 2010

Remember the saying: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”
Well, what keeps the doctor healthy?
This week, we wanted to spotlight:
It is an interactive web site which has video clips, printed materials and cognitive exercises to help with physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
Last year, our town sadly lost a physician colleague to suicide…
Understanding the pain and loneliness of depression can give some perspective on this unthinkable action for most…
As a physician, we are not immune to depression and other psychological conditions that affect our society as a whole. Interestingly enough, our profession may be one of the most vulnerable:
Yet, I believe that this resource is useful for everyone, especially if you or someone you know is going through some difficult times. Just remember that you are never alone with anything we face – no matter what our negative thinking may say (more on NT later).
Take care,

Happy 2010!!
January 2, 2010

We have been on a bit of a hiatus due to the holiday season… hope that everyone had a restful and joyful one!
With 2010 upon us, we are going to ramp it up a notch or two, i.e. more regular blogging and the featuring of media-based therapeutic resources!
The holidays and New Year are a great time to reflect on things… What was accomplished in 2009? What do you want to do in 2010, i.e. your dreams? What do you most appreciate in your life? What values are most important to you?
These are all CRAVED mnemonic words (Reflect, Accomplishments/powerful moments, Dreams/Compelling future, Appreciate and Values) – all can be found in the Quit Quitting movie (see Exercise pdf at www.mediatherapy.ca) and in First You Smoked Now You Live.
All of these thinking exercises can help ground and centre us for the upcoming year.
May you have a peaceful and happy 2010!
